• Females. He's convinced he has the rest of the birds at Hogwarts wrapped around his finger. He can be delusional.

Personality:
James, to be frank, is a complete and utter show off. He can even be considered as cruel with the way he behaves toward some people, and he's always trying to get attention, and to be the center of it. He's constantly running his fingers through his hair, since he's completely convinced that the female population of Hogwarts finds this all too alluring. And for the most part his assumptions are correct - unless we're dealing with Lily Evans.

No matter what he does, he can never seem to impress the girl, and he's still convinced that she's still holding his childish antics from their first few years at Hogwarts against him. But he's also incredibly determined, and he will somehow get Lily to see him for who he really is, and not how everyone else perceives him. She's well worth it, after all.

His friends mean everything to him, along with his family of course. Remus helps to keep him grounded, and he knows he can always confide in him - and bring him chocolate. Sirius was always there for him, as well, and vice versa (for Remus as well, of course!) And Sirius definitely brought out the natural trouble-maker in him. Peter, on the other hand.. well, he was good to use as prey if they needed to buy some time. Merlin knows the boy could babble on for hours about useless bits of information. James used to be incredibly annoyed with him, to be honest. But now? He's starting to learn to appreciate him more. But the copying James thing? That really needs to stop.

But James is deeper than he seems. He has actual feelings. He takes life seriously at times, regardless of his carefree nature. He notices things that people wouldn't expect him to notice. And contrary to popular belief? James does study. He is intelligent, and actually hates to copy anything off of Remus. He'd rather earn his own marks, thanks.

He's incredibly close to his parents. Most kids his age try to pull away from the influence of their parents and separate themselves as much as possible. James, however, stays as close as possible to his parents - definitely something most of his peers don't know about him. With the exception of Remus, Sirius, and Peter, of course!

Appearance:
Standing at the approximate height of five feet and eleven inches, James towers over many of his peers. He's quite lean and muscular due to his devotion to the Quidditch team as one of the Chasers; which he's damned proud of. Due to the sport, as well, he has a scar on the back of his left thigh from a nasty spill he had during a particularly grueling match. While he had become a bit awkward in his appearance during his third year because he shot up in height like a giant, he at last grew into his looks by the time fourth year came around. And in his eyes? He's convinced that he's one of the best-looking blokes at Hogwarts, now! Luckily for all of the birds, of course. James is notable for having his glasses perched upon his nose to magnify his brilliant hazel eyes, and a mop of messy black hair atop his head that sticks up in various places. But really? He likes and prefers it like that, and now messes it up on purpose.

Background:
On the late evening of the twenty-seventh of March in the year of 1960, James was born to Christopher and Antoinette Potter. They were in their late forties when Antoinette was finally able to conceive and give birth to a child. They had been trying to have a child since their marriage (c.1940-1942) but had no luck. So when Antoinette found out she was indeed pregnant, they both knew that there was absolutely nothing that they wouldn't give their son.

They had both been successful in their chosen professions. Christopher worked in the Magical Law Enforcement Department within the Ministry of Magic, usually to keep things running smoothly within their world. Antoinette, however, was a writer for the Daily Prophet, working mainly with current events and keeping things current. Antoinette stepped down from her position on the Daily Prophet shortly after her one and only son was born - she wanted to spend every waking moment with him. Christopher took off a few months from his own job in order to get to spend time with James, but soon returned back to his normal work schedule. Granted, they had enough money to never work another day in their lives, but Christopher liked to keep himself busy.

As a young child, James received any and everything his little heart desired. He received his first wand at the age of six after much begging. But once he pouted his lips, his parents almost instantly agreed. After all, they wanted to give James anything he wanted in order to keep him happy. James figured that he needed to get a jump start on learning magic for when he got accepted into Hogwarts - it was only a matter of time, after all. Being born into a Pureblood family - he knew all about magic and Hogwarts and the other Wizarding families. He had been forced to get along with the other children of those families, but no matter how hard he tried - he just didn't like them. They were even more stuck-up than he was. And that was saying something. He didn't have a problem trying to hang around with them too much, to be honest, especially since it made his parents happy.

Until one of the little Pureblood brats mentioned something about the Potters being 'blood-traitors'. At the time, James had absolutely no idea what this term meant since he had yet to be exposed to it, but he knew it couldn't have been something good with the way he said it. Without a moment of notice, James had punched the kid in the eye for the remark. Both sets of parents had a fit, but James didn't care. He was defending his family - what he knew was right, and it was ultimately that day when James Potter transitioned from being just like everyone else, and to being who he would someday become. And definitely the reason as to why he was sorted into Gryffindor and not Slytherin when the time came.

When he was seven years of age, he had found a frog in their backyard. He had scooped it up and taken it into his room without his parents knowing. He had gotten his first wand just a week prior to finding the creature, and thought he could make the frog float in midair. After all, his father had done it almost every day, so why couldn't he? Unfortunately for the frog - James ended up blowing him up instead of levitating him. His mother threw a fit when James bumbled down the stairs, frog guts splattered all over him.

After that incident it had been decided that James was indefinitely not allowed to have any pets. At all. It was for the sheer fact that his parents didn't want to jeopardise anymore innocent lives. He had insisted that it was a complete and utter accident, but it was to no avail for the time being.

His parents, wanting more than ever to just try and fit in with the rest of the Pureblood society, began to hold galas. Which meant etiquette lessons for their one and only son. He had even taken up piano lessons in order to try and impress them at a Christmas party in the year of 1966. He had taken lessons from a Muggle teacher, and she had been surprisingly good. James, however, stunk at it - but that was normal since he had never played before. After a fair few lessons, his skills immediately took charge, and his natural talent flourished. He'd die if anyone knew he still played the piano during the summer months. The party had gone on quite well. That is until James hexed another boy who tried to touch the broomstick his father had given to him when he turned six. The party had ended quickly after that, needless to say, and the Potters decided against having anymore galas and events in their home, although he did attend a few at the Black manor where he was first introduced to Sirius Black.

While at first James was all too completely afraid of getting too close with Sirius, he couldn't help it. They had instantly clicked, and nothing could have penetrated that bond. Had Sirius not been a male, James probably would have found his life long soul mate. Regardless of gender, he does believe that Sirius is his other half. There will always be that one person that you'll just know you were supposed to meet. And without Sirius, James' life would truly be incomplete. James would do absolutely anything for Sirius Black, and he knows that he'd definitely do the same.

Since that day, the two have been nearly inseparable. But because of the fact that the rest of Sirius' family referred to the Potters as 'blood-traitors', he wasn't allowed anywhere near the boy, much to both of their despair. But soon that would all change because there was no way they could control how they interacted at Hogwarts.

James' acceptance letter arrived just as he and his family had expected it would. While they were in Diagon Alley to shop for his school supplies, he ran into Sirius. The two boys exchanged words for only a moment before Sirius had been dragged off in the opposite direction, but it was official - Sirius would be going to Hogwarts this year, as well.

James had excitedly boarded the train to Hogwarts when the time came. Okay, and after his parents smothered him with hugs and kisses and made him promise to write to them. After agreeing (and fixing his hair), he had stepped onto the train, and after poking his head into many compartments, he had finally found him - Sirius Black. James was already considering Sirius to be his best friend, and he felt as if Sirius was thinking the same thing. If one were to ask James about the first time him and Sirius knew that they would be best friends until the end of time, this would be the day that he would recite back to you, because it was forever filed in his memories.

But soon there were two more to their little group of trouble-makers. Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, no doubt. He had felt a bond with Remus when they first began to talk, but it wasn't like how it was with Sirius - at least not in the same ways. But he could trust Remus. Peter, however, he was completely unsure of. He always seemed so.. timid and nervous. But regardless of James being annoyed with him at times, he too became one of his best friends.

During the sorting hat ceremony, a young red head had been sorted ahead of him in line, but after Sirius, of course. His hazel eyes had watched her the entire time while listening to the hat try to decide where to put her. When it decided on Gryffindor, James knew that he had to get into Gryffindor. That was where he belonged. After all, his three new friends were also sorted into it and now the first girl he had actually noticed? The qualities of determination and daring to be different stood out the most to the hat, or so it had said when upon his head, and a courage that the world knows not of that placed him firmly in Gryffindor. There was definitely no other house for James Potter.

Their first Halloween when they were all together, something quite unfortunate had happened. He had been trying so hard to impress Lily. He had known from the very moment he had first laid eyes on her that she was definitely the one for him. Too bad she didn't see it that way. He had kindly offered her a chocolate frog, and when he saw the look on her face when the little critter had slipped into her hair - he had to try and make her feel more at ease! So in an attempt to immobilize the frog, he accidentally hit Lily instead. He's regretted that day for quite awhile now, but has long since given up on trying to explain himself.

During his third year during a particular close Quidditch match, one of the Slytherin's had been wearing on James' nerves. A lot. Just being a right foul git. It was bad enough that James had received a Howler from his mum that morning, and Rodolphus was not helping with his mood. At all. Regardless of the rules, he grabbed one of the Beater bats from a nearby player on the Gryffindor team and hurled a Bludger at the Slytherin boy. The whistle had been blown, and the two boys had fallen to the ground, punches being thrown. The two separated from one another only when Albus had come upon them. After all, James would rather not get into too much trouble with the Headmaster.

Needless to say, James ended up with a black eye and a broken nose. But it was totally worth it to clobber that bastard.

Fourth year passed without James getting into too much mischief. Aside from the one incident in which he "accidentally" blew up Sirius' pillow because he had gotten incredibly miffed during a particularly intense Quidditch match. He was able to switch out one of his own before Sirius arrived back in the dormitory that night, and promptly made his parents send him another pillow so he'd have something to sleep on. Sirius, Remus, and Peter thought he was even more of a loon for sleeping with no pillow - he had claimed that it would help with Quidditch strategy. Too bad it only gave him a stiff neck. But the rest of the year went along without much more trouble than the pillow incident. Nothing exciting was happening, which made James Potter quite bored, to be frank.

As a result of this boredom, a young, greasy-haired boy became the brunt of James' and Sirius' relentless abuse and torture, to which they considered as 'having some fun'. Severus Snape. James hated the boy. Not as much as Sirius, of course, but he was convinced that Snape was going after Lily. Then again, he was convinced that any bloke that even looked at her was trying to date her. And while for the most part he let Sirius take care of the physical aspect of it - even though he did like to hang him upside down with his knickers showing, admittedly - he was quite proud of the nickname he had thought up for Snape - Snivellus. Apparently Sirius had thought it was brilliant, too, since he had begun to call him that as well.

Strengths and weaknesses:
• Transfiguration. Flying. Defense Against the Dark Arts. Quidditch. Being pretty.
James would like to consider that every trait he has? Is perfect and a strength of his. Unfortunately? That's so far from the truth that it's almost unbelievable. James is loyal to a fault, and would do absolutely anything for those he cares about. He is strong both physically and mentally, but only to a certain extent for the latter of the two. He does well in school, contrary to popular belief, and actually enjoys it. For the most part, that is. James is also as determined as they come, and once he's set his mind to something? You can be sure he will not give up until it has been completed. Which also brings us to patience. He can either have a lot of it, or very little of it. If he's already angry or tired? His patience level is at zero unless your name is Lily Evans.

• Care of Magical Creatures. Divination. Ugh.
His biggest strength, however, could also be seen as his biggest weakness - his parents. He loves them more than life itself and would probably crumble without them in his life. They've been his rock for so many years and have taught him right from wrong, even if he does put on a bit of a front while at school. His parents are the main ties to his emotions, and his number one weakness. And whether he'd like to admit it or not? The fact that Lily keeps turning him down? Only makes him disgruntled, and more determined. But honestly? It does hurt him from time to time and makes him wonder if he's doing something wrong. All of the other birds seem to fall for it, after all!

The Writing
Journal Example:

I think I have a love/hate relationship with the summer months. During the school year, I can't wait for freedom. But during the time that we're actually off? I miss school way too much to be allowed legal by any sort of decree. I miss sitting by the lake, and early morning Quidditch practices. Practicing in the morning is always the best cause the air is still cool and the lighting is the absolute best, I think.

But that's just me!

It's nice to just be with my parents, though. Mum has been baking like a banshee. Which is great for me, actually.. The more brownies she bakes? The better, I say. She's also been trying to get me to cook. Yeah. Okay, mum. I guess you want the house to blow up or something. But I'd rather not. I like it too much. And then I'd be homeless. Hey, Lils - if my house blew up.. could I live with you?

AND THE SODDING GNOMES. IF I HAVE TO PULL OUT ONE MORE OF THE LITTLE BUGGERS.. I SWEAR. I should invent something like.. 'Gnome-Be-Gone'.

I need to go polish my broom.

-James.

RP example:

James was dead tired, to be honest. He had had a gruesome Quidditch practice this evening and he still had to finish up a scroll of parchment for Transfiguration. Bloody hell. And to be completely truthful? He hadn't even the foggiest idea as to what this homework assignment was even About! He knew it had something to do with a table, but he couldn't precisely remember it. He'd have to remember to ask Remus in the morning to make sure. Otherwise? He feign an illness and spend the day in the Hospital Wing.

After resolving this issue mentally, James chose to drag his tired arse up to the library, to where he begrudgingly had to pull a few books from the shelves and let them fall noisily onto the table. He ignored the annoyed glances around him and the clearing of throats. He locked himself up at a corner table, nearly falling asleep before he realised he didn't have nearly enough information for this paper to suffice. The back-up plan of pretending to be sick? More and more appealing.

Lifting himself lethargically from his table, he began to lurk around the many shelves of books when a glimpse of fiery red hair caught his hazel eyes. Glancing over, a devious smile lifted his expression and he suddenly felt completely awake. He quietly strode behind her and leaned his neck over her shoulder in order to read what she was writing down. "You know, most people come to the library to do homework, Miss Evans," he cooed in a soft, gentle sort of growl. This looked more like a list as opposed to homework!
